Wattpad is a global online community and creative platform on which users share their written works and feedback. In 2013, the company set up shop in an existing 3- storey brick building across from the iconic Flatiron in the historic district of downtown Toronto. A successful collaboration between Carter AI, Mette Design and EBS Construction facilitated Wattpad’s vision for a functional and playful environment that inspires creativity.
The Wattpad project incorporates the interior alteration to the entrance, 2nd and 3rd floor storeys of the existing building. Work includes a new 3rd floor mezzanine and redesign of the existing stairwell to incorporate additional natural light. The complexity of the project was driven by a desire for openness while maintaining fire and safety requirements throughout the building with shared tenancy.
