LCBO retained David Carter Architects to design a 1,300 square meter new addition to the existing 42,000 square meter LCBO Distribution Facility in London Ontario. This project presented the LCBO with an opportunity to make deep improvements to the infrastructure and logistics management of its second largest Warehouse and Distribution Facility.
Site circulation was fully redesigned to accommodate an additional 16 truck loading docks. Container storage, waste handling, shipping and receiving functions were incorporated into a new logistics plan enabled by the addition. Renovations to the existing space anticipate the future installation of a proprietary sorting and packing system. This equipment, and its associated intakes and outputs will cover most of the 3,570 square meters of renovated area.
The project includes a new building shell and structure associated with the addition, partial replacement of the existing building envelope, alterations to the palletizing and sorting area of existing facility and the new 22 bay loading dock facility. The new addition is constructed in steel frame with a raised concrete base at dock height complete with specialized cast in place dock leveling system.
