As part of on-going electrical infrastructure upgrades for a banking and financial services client in a downtown Toronto tower, this project involved the design of new interior and exterior spaces to house a new 1450kW diesel-fuel generator and associated electrical equipment on the mechanical penthouse (32nd floor) of the tower.
Exterior alterations to the existing roof assembly were required in order to provide temporary access for delivery of construction materials and electrical equipment. A new mechanical equipment roof enclosure was designed to house new mechanical equipment and new intake and exhaust openings for the operation of the new generator. The design of the roof enclosure was a result of close collaboration with the property managers, establishing a design that synthesizes the functional requirements required for the proper operation of the new generator as well as maintaining a formal relationship with the architecturally significant language of the towers.
